Karen is an artist and designer, living and working near Ely. Having been a professional designer for most of her working life, she now creates artwork and surface patterns inspired by her love of decorative and historical design. She also works part time at The Arts Centre.
Driven by combining and experimenting with different palettes, her work is a celebration of colour. As a recovering perfectionist she often uses different mono printing techniques to create her collage papers. This encourages the experimental and happy accidents that can springboard new artworks and ideas. The challenge of adding hand and free motion embroidery to these paper collages adds detail and texture. A selection of framed original collages , prints and greetings cards will be for sale.
‘For me creativity is not just a ‘thing', it's a way of life. I don't differentiate between who I am, what I create and how I live my life. “
Karen is holding a gelliplate printmaking workshop during this exhibition on Wednesday 17 July. Join her for an introduction to this simple and fun form of printmaking. You can find out more here.
