Description: In the morning we will look at colours in nature and create washes for backgrounds including salt textures and splatters as well as swooshing washes. This will be using basic equipment and materials (provided). There will be some traditional art materials, but also some repurposed materials. Gail loves sustainable and accessible art, that is easy to start and shouldn't cost the earth.
In the afternoon we will look at and draw the wonderful patterns created by trees and wild plants. We will work from real life or photos onto the washes created in the morning. You are welcome to bring along your own inspiration, photos, branches, seeds, flowers. Gail encourages the use of ballpoint pens to develop confident drawing, with surprisingly subtle and energetic effects. You can extend what you learn beyond the workshop to draw a range of native trees and plants and their textures.
What to bring: You should have a couple of ideas and images of the type of nature you would like to draw, if you use reading glasses you should bring those too. Plus any inspiration, Gail will bring plenty, but if you have special trees, flowers or photos you want to draw from please bring along. Bring a packed lunch or let us know when you book if you want to book a light lunch from the on site cafe.
