Supportive and experienced tutor Hilary Kemp will teach and guide you whatever your skill level. Suitable for anyone from beginners to more experienced aged 16+
Spend the day learning basic pottery skills using the natural world as inspiration for shapes and decoration. Throwing pots on the wheel is the technique of shaping round ceramics using a potter’s wheel, shaping the pot as the wheel turns. The clay rotates so you can mould it into the desired shape with your hands. You will be able to turn the bases once the clay has firmed up to refine the shape. Coiling is an ancient method of hand building by rolling long coils of clay and placing one on top of another to form different shapes. Slab building involves rolling out clay to an even thickness then cutting shapes, folding, bending, manipulating, and joining together to create the finished form.
How to dress: Please wear older clothes and tie your hair back.
Lunch: Our onsite Tea Room will be open serving light lunches, cakes and a range of hot and cold drinks. Alternatively you are welcome to bring your own packed lunch. Depending on the time of year and weather there is inside tea room seating and outside in the garden area.
